Fancy a fly but there's bugger all wind? Can't quite be bothered with a winch or bungee? Don't fancy flying electric? R/C hand / discuss launched (R/C HLG & R/C DLG) gliders could be what you need!
Discus launched (DLG) gliders are the new craze hitting the UK. Gone are the days of Fatima Whitbread muscular physiques dominating the flinging scene! This method involves spinning the glider round yourself by it's wing tip and releasing it skyward! Much less shoulder injuires involved.
Discus launched gliders are usually sleek carbon fibre ships. Models such as the Apogee, Terminator, Kahu, Avenger 2 (left), Gambler, Seeker, Red Herring, etc.
A cheaper (and potentially more fun) style of discus launched gliders are the tailess or flying wing variety. Some of the more popular ones are the Alula (left), Weasel-pro, Noseeum and the Boomer EX2.
Hand launched or javelin launched (HLG) gliders, the old school method of flat field gliding without winches or bungees. Picture on the left is 'Chunk' - the Irvine 'Pixie' - a great ARTF hand launched glider modified with a 'flinger' hole under the fuselage for extra launch power!
